The
church's ministry to men is called “The Brotherhood” and our foundational verse is
"God chose them to become like his Son, so
that his Son would be the firstborn with many brothers..."
(Rom. 8:29), which tells us that men are to
be brothers to one another and with Christ Jesus. Men are to
support each other and "watch
their back" since the Bible teaches we are in the middle of a spiritual battle.
The vision of “The Brotherhood” is to equip men to fulfill their Biblical,
God-ordained roles as spiritual leaders in the home, church, workplace and
community.
Our Purpose
to offer the brotherhood of Christ to
men fighting to move from success to meaning, addictions to freedom,
and self-orientation to God's priorities.
to be an instrument of God in His transformation of ordinary men
into mighty men of God; training, equipping, and preparing them for
spiritual battle, calling them to fight the good fight, finish the
course and keep the faith. So that they may please the One who
enlisted them as a soldier.
We believe, that according to
Ephesians 6:12, we are in the midst of a spiritual battle that
requires that we be strong, equipped with the full armor of God,
ready to resist in the evil day and stand firm. The Men's Ministry
of Lake Deerwood Fellowship exists to make men aware of this battle
and to prepare them for their role in it as good soldiers of Christ
(2 Tim 2:3).
We strive to do this in Jesus Christ by:
†
Knowing the Word of God.
"…Blessed rather are those who hear
the word of God and
obey it." Luke 11:28
†
Becoming a prayer warrior.
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being
watchful and thankful.”
Colossians 4:2
†
Establishing Godly relationships.
“Come, follow me, and I will make you
fishers of men.”
Matthew 4:19
†
Becoming a spiritual leader.
“Since we live by the spirit, let us
keep in step with the spirit.”
Galatians 5:25
†
Being a good steward of time and resources.
“Remember this: whoever sows
sparingly will also reap
sparingly and whoever sows generously
will also reap
generously. …God loves a cheerful
giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
†
Developing disciples.
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of
all nations…” Matthew
28:19
The
Vision
Sadly, most men wander aimlessly through life, spending themselves
on uninspiring pursuits. One guy put it something like this, "Over
the course of a man's life, his manhood is too often determined by
ball fields, bedrooms, and billfolds." Sad, but true. The
Brotherhood hopes to give men an inspiring Biblical vision of
manhood, call them up, and equip them to love God, their
families, their church, their community, and their world through
Jesus Christ—and to help others do the same.
The
Means
A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can
stand back to back and conquer. Ecclesiastes 4:12 NLT
Men become men in the company of men and bonds are created when we
do things together. That, quite simply, is the purpose of The
Brotherhood.
It’s tempting to believe that we’re strong enough to handle life on
our own, but the truth is that we as men are most vulnerable when
we’re isolated from other men. When God’s Man stumbles it is almost
always because he’s alone and disconnected from other men who can
help him through.
We all need brothers we can trust, a group of men we can journey
through life with, who will help us face our fears, our trials, and
our secrets. We need a place of security, support, growth, and
accountability. |
